Wall Progress-Finally!

So, remember back when we talked about the barn and how I was going to change all kinds of things? That is still on the agenda, the progression is just slow.

If you’ll think back, this is what the barn looked like prior to May. A giant backwards L shaped lean to around the non-finished perimeter.

And you’ll recall that this was the end goal:A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally!

Well, we’re remarkably close to the end goal, which is thrilling considering we’ve accomplished little else this year. The exception to the end goal is that the corner nearest the hay storage contains lumber, so it is more like this:

A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally! We’ve still increased the area, and it feels so much bigger. Not only does it allow more room for riding, but there’s more natural light in the center of the barn from the big exterior doors.

Here are some progress pictures:A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally! A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally! A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally! A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally!

We were stuck at that point for a while because it got all of the 12′ boards out of the way and the smaller boards weren’t as big of a hassle to ride around in the barn. We lost motivation with the heat this summer, but once it started to cool down, we were back at it.

You’ll note that there’s still a 12′ section of the wall that isn’t covered in wood. That’s because I hope to have a door framed in down there so that I don’t have to open the big heavy door every time I enter/exit the barn. So that part will be finished down the road. A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally! A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally!

My mounting block/foot stool feels like the subject of the picture…sorry, I guess I should’ve moved that. A Soft Spot for Stars-Wall Progress Finally!

There are also three boards or so not attached to the end of the wall because we ran out of screws. This is how this project has been going. There were occasions where we forgot the drill at home, occasions where we showed up and the drill batteries weren’t as charged as they were supposed to be, etc. I’m so glad we’re nearing completion now. Moving the wall has made a huge difference in the feel of the barn. I can’t wait to get sand in here this winter to improve the footing.
